Private boss Evert Santegoeds, who maintains direct contact with John de Mol, thinks Wilfred Genee is just a whiner. “He’s not going to say no to more than 1 million euros, is he?”
Evert Santegoeds has spoken negatively on various stages about the position that Wilfred Genee takes in his negotiations with John de Mol. While Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp are already prepared to sign for another year, Wilfred would like to have his own interview program. And probably some salary increase too.
Deadline
That man wants way too much, according to Evert. He heard from John when the deadline is. “We will know how it will turn out in the course of next week, I understood. I think Wilfred must have made his decision by Tuesday whether he will go along with the plans as they are now,” he says in Shownieuws.
And that interview program that Wilfred wants? “They have to find another solution for that, but I don’t think he’s going to say no to the more than 1 million for the coming year. He would also be crazy, of course, and he can’t go in that many directions.”
Huge match
Wilfred shouldn’t complain so much about that extra program, Evert thinks. “That’s a talk show, but when if you’re already on TV five nights a week? When do you want to do that talk show again?”
“VI is his program, it’s a success and he’s one of the people you just shouldn’t take away from that program. It’s a huge match and he should be happy with that. I also think that people close to him say to him: ‘Just act normal.’”
To the studio
What exactly will happen on Tuesday evening? “They have to decide on Tuesday evening whether they are out. I understand that Mr. De Mol then comes to the studio and he just wants to hear it: are we going to continue next year or are we not going to do it?” Evert adds in the podcast. Strictly Private.
“Now Wilfred Genee just has to say yes to more than 1 million per year. Well, he will. (…) You have to watch out for such an overdose. If you are on TV five days a week, you don’t necessarily want to record Business Class on Saturday morning or another interview program for Sunday morning.”
Business Class
Business Class? According to Evert, Wilfred wants to take over that program. “I have a theory about that too. What has Wilfred Genee been doing so much lately in the company of Harry Mens? In the past, people only laughed about it and fragments were purchased, of Harry in conversation with Willem van Hanegem.”
“And suddenly Genee is complaining about it. Then I thought: wouldn’t it be the case that Genee has set his sights on that Harry Mens program and that he then wants to transfer it to SBS 6? I only spoke to Harry briefly and he says: ‘There won’t be anything like that for the next three or four years.’”
Interest
Harry believes that Wilfred is interested. “I say: ‘But he is interested?’ “Yes, he is interested, but he shouldn’t do anything crazy.” That is of course true, because those people pay to sit at the table and if you have the attitude of Wilfred Genee, things quickly go wrong. So there’s something there. Something is going on there. “
“Gene also has business experience with his BNR Nieuwsradio, so I think he will be the successor to Harry Mens, but not yet, because Harry is a bit older, but he has no intention of stopping yet. He was really talking about: ‘I will continue for another three or four years’, so Genee will have to be patient for a while.”
No success
Until then, Wilfred better not count on anything, says Evert. “It is a factor that programs outside VI with Genee were not such a success, unless of course you come up with a proven success such as Business Class. That has a captive audience and that would be the solution to two problems in one.”
John doesn’t like it either, it seems. “You noticed it a bit during the argument between Wilfred and Johan, that I really thought: well, De Mol is in Derksen’s favor and I still believe that. To a higher extent even. I don’t think Genee and John would go out for a beer together or anything. No…”
