Michael Jung has secured the German championship title in eventing for the third time after 2012 and 2021. The 39-year-old triumphed on Sunday in Luhmühlen with his horse Highlighter.

The three-time Olympic champion was already in the lead after dressage and cross-country at the four-star test in Lower Saxony. He successfully defended this on Sunday. In the final jumping he remained flawless and secured first place with a total of 25.6 penalty points. “The title in Luhmühlen is something very special,” Jung said happily in the NDR interview.

Second was Dirk Schrade (Heidmühlen) with Casino (29.6). Sandra Auffarth (Ganderkesee) came in third with her youngster Rosveel (29.8). “In the end, experience won out. We have a worthy German champion,” said national coach Peter Thomsen.

Not present in Luhmühlen, where 15,000 spectators made the pilgrimage to the cross-country test on Saturday, were Ingrid Klimke from Münster and Olympic champion Julia Krajewski from Warendorf.

Vogg wins the five-star test

The Swiss Felix Vogg, who was already leading after the cross-country ride, won the international five-star test. In the saddle of Colero he prevailed on his 32nd birthday with a faultless ride in the show jumping course on Sunday ahead of Kirsty Chabert from Great Britain with Classic and Jonelle Price from New Zealand with Dianimo. “It’s all very emotional,” said Vogg.

Sophie Leube from Fröndenberg, the only German participant, had already given up with Jadore Moi in the cross-country test on Saturday after six of 30 obstacles.
