The Bergmannkiez blocks cars driving through. Construction work starts Monday.
► Fidicinstraße will be transformed into a one-way street (11 meters wide). Because even after the redesign of Bergmannstraße only for residents, this area will continue to be used for driving through. The Fidicinstraße was recently a shortcut for many cars from the direction of Mehringdamm. There are also speed limits.
► The Chamissoplatz will be provided with drive-through barriers – so-called Kiez-Blocks.
► The parking spaces will be rearranged, but the number will remain the same. In the future, you will park your vehicle diagonally.
► There are also around 300 new bicycle parking spaces and further crossing points for pedestrians at the junctions.
The big hit for the pedestrian zone in the trendy neighborhood is yet to come: a four-meter cycle path flanked by lots of greenery and water features.
The district’s Roads and Parks Department is still urgently looking for planners to prepare the urban planning competition for this 11 million project.
