Evangeline Lilly has revealed she suffered brain damage after a serious fall on a rock last year. This is what medical tests revealed. The “Lost” actress spoke openly about the consequences of the accident.
Diagnosis after concussion
In May, Lilly wrote that she “passed out on the beach and fell face first onto a rock,” and shared photos of her bloodied and bruised face. The actress also explained that she has been prone to fainting spells or “blackouts” since she was a child.
Following the incident, Lilly suffered a concussion and later announced her retirement from acting due to the injuries she sustained. In a recent update to her fans, Lilly revealed the full extent of her “traumatic brain injury (TBI).”
“The verdict is in. I actually have brain damage from my TBI. It’s comforting to know that my cognitive decline isn’t just related to perimenopause, but disturbing to know what a steep road it will be to make up for the deficits,” Lilly wrote. “Thank you for always asking, always caring and continuing to pray for me.”
Impaired brain functions
In a video, Lilly added that doctors had performed brain scans and found that “almost every area of my brain is operating at reduced capacity.”
“My job now is to work with doctors to get to the bottom of what’s causing it and then do the hard work of fixing it all. I’m not looking forward to that because I feel like hard work is all I do,” Lilly said. “But that’s OK. My cognitive decline since hitting my face has helped me slow down and allow me to have a calmer end to 2025.”

Michelle Pfeiffer, who starred with Lilly in the “Ant-Man” franchise, showed her support in the video’s comments: “You’re a fighter. Nothing – not even this – will defeat you, my friend.”
