The German champion Eva Lys receives the second wild card for the WTA tournament in mid-July in Hamburg. “A dream comes true with the main field wildcard and I see it as a great opportunity,” said the 20-year-old local hero, who is ranked 223rd in the world after a good year so far.

In the previous year she had received a wildcard for qualification, where she only just failed in her first match at WTA level. “This tournament and the club are my second home,” said the Bundesliga player from Club an der Alster, “I’m incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to play here at Rothenbaum again.”

The Hamburg native, who was born in the Ukraine, is already the fourth German player who is definitely represented in the main draw in Hamburg. Andrea Petkovic and Jule Niemeier qualified via the world rankings, 18-year-old Nastasja Schunk also received a wild card.
