In round two of the US Open, Eva Lys wanted to pass Linda Nosková. But her own body prevented this.
The German Eva Lys left the US Open in the second round. Against the Czech Linda Nosková set to number 21, the German had to give up at 4: 6, 0: 3.
In the first set, Lys had 2: 5 behind with double break when she had the physio treated on the back. After returning to the square, she came up to 4: 5, but then gave the first set and quickly received two breaks in set two. Then the German broke off the game.
Already at the preparation tournament in Cleveland in the previous week, Lys had withdrawn before the quarter -finals for back problems. Her rheumatic autoimmune disease caused her problems, as she reported in New York.
“After the last tournament, this is certainly a topic that I carry with me. The hope is of course always there that the back will not get worse during the match,” Lys said after her opening victory in Flushing Meadows. “I feel my back, but it’s something I can play with.” That was no longer the case in round two.
The whole match for reading in the ticker:
Lys – Nosková 4: 6, 0: 3: Lys strikes the first return and appears increasingly frustrated. Lys also takes the next return and then suddenly goes to the net. The German gives up the match. The back pain seems too strong.
Lys – Nosková 4: 6, 0: 3: Again Nosková dominates the first rallies and closes with a crashing forehand. Lys follows a double error and another forehand error brings three break balls again. Lys defends the first with an ace and in the second breakball Nosková makes a mistake. Then she pounds a ball on the line and takes 3-0 in the lead.
Lys – Nosková 4: 6, 0: 2: Nosková starts her service with an ace, but a backhand error follows. A forehand winner brings the Czech 30:15. The Czech continues to act powerfully and forces Lys to make a mistake. At 40:15, Nosková serves a double error, but a forehand error by LYS means 2: 0.
Lys – Nosková 4: 6, 0: 1: Lys begins sentence two with his own serve and quickly scores the first two points. Again Nosková successfully plays a stop and gets the 30:15. With a crashing return, she forces Lys to make a mistake and Nosková gets breakball again with a backhand winer. A forehand of Lys lands on the net and Noskova takes 1-0 in the lead.
Lys – Nosková 4: 6: Nosková can now open again to win the set and Lys will give her 15: 0 with a backhand error. Due to a forehand error by the Czech, it quickly stands 15:15, but a service winner means 30:15. Lys continue to fight and a forehand error from Nosková brings that 30:30. Noskova beats a crashing forehand winner and gets set ball and Lys takes her backhand. Nosková wins sentence one!
