At the WTA tournament in Berlin, Eva Lys met a top ten player in the first round. In the end he had nothing to oppose.

Unpassed prelude to Eva Lys in the WTA tournament in Berlin: The Hamburg woman lost her first-round match against the world ranking-listed Paula Badosa with 1: 6, 3: 6 and thus missed a surprise at the Steffi-Graf Stadium in her debut.

Lys gave her first serve game – and too zero. Against the powerful game of the Australian Open semi-finalist from Spain, she also found no recipe afterwards. The first set was decided after only 25 minutes. In the second round, Badosa also dominated the action and finally converted her second match ball to victory.

With the defeat, Lys collects a setback in preparation for Wimbledon. The Grand Slam tournament begins on June 30th. After all, in London it will be located directly in the main field for the first time. The 23-year-old is currently taking 62th place in the world rankings-thanks to her round of 16 at the Australian Open, into which she slipped as Lucky Loser.

At the beginning of the week, Tatjana Maria, winner at the WTA tournament in the London Queen’s Club, had replaced Lys as German number one. In Berlin, Lys are still in doubles – together with her friend Marta Kostjuk from Ukraine.
