Eva Jinek has been passed over by the NPO: not she, but Jeroen Pauw was on the channel last night with a scheduled broadcast because of the attacks on Iran. Why is that exactly? “This is the reason.”
The United States and Israel launched a major attack on Iran yesterday, killing the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Jeroen Pauw therefore came yesterday with an extra broadcast of his talk show Pauw & De Wit. However, the other major talk show host of the NPO, Eva Jinek, was allowed to stay at home.
Dozens dead
Jeroen was happy with the extra broadcast. “I think, like almost every editorial team in Hilversum, we have such a large group app and everyone bursts out saying: guys, have you seen it? That started this morning at 7.40 am and will continue until late tonight,” he says in RTL Boulevard.
He continues: “But of course it is not at all that we are happy when a war starts, because you know that dozens or perhaps hundreds have already been killed.”
Chest beating
Jeroen feels it is an honor that they have been asked for an extra show. “I believe that without any chest-thumping, we will be there in a very short time. In that sense, no matter how strange it sounds, it is also a reward if the public broadcaster then asks you: something important is happening, would you like to be there tonight?”
Reporter Aran Bade also thinks this is more than justified. “Jeroen is the journalist par excellence who can do it. The NPO decides. It is the network manager who decides whether they will make room for them.”
No Eva
Eva Jinek could therefore simply stay at home. “I think Eva Jinek was also looking at her screen today, saying: can I come too?”, says Aran.
He concludes: “Jeroen said that Eva is more of a cultural program and that he really makes a journalistic program, but I think she would have wanted it too. I think it is right that Jeroen does it.”
