Eurovision final in the lead with S10, ‘Laura Pausini looked like a dragon!’

Yesterday’s Eurovision Song Contest final, with S10, was not such a viewer figure as last year. The Italian production received a lot of criticism, as did presenter Laura Pausini. “She looked like a dragon!”

The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which was won by Ukraine as expected – our entry S10 came in 11th place, attracted 3.1 million viewers (69% market share) to NPO 1 last night. That is considerably less than last year, when the song festival took place in the Netherlands and 5.4 million people watched.

5.4 million

Since the AvroTros no longer sends fairground artists to the Song Contest – everything changed with Anouk’s entry in 2013 – the final of the song festival only attracted twice as many viewers: in 2015, when Trijntje Oosterhuis failed in the semi-final, 2 million people watched . In 2018, when Waylon participated, more than 3 million watched.

The top five most watched finals since the start of the current ratings measurement in 2002 are as follows:

1. Jeangu MacRooy, 2021: 5.4 million viewers
2. The Common Linnets, 2014: 5.1 million viewers
3. Anouk, 2013: 4.9 million viewers
4. Duncan Laurence, 2019: 4.4 million viewers
5. Douwe Bob, 2016: 4.3 million viewers

Laura Pausinic

The Italians did not impress with the production of the Eurovision Song Contest. Presenter Laura Pausini also had to pay. “Sorry, isn’t it hideous? Makeup, clothes. Such a shame and unnecessary! The worst stylist and makeup artist ever, how? It looks like an audition for The Witches of Eastwick,” bitch Leco van Zadelhoff on Instagram.

And Patty Brard in Shownieuws: “I really don’t get it. I find it really unbelievable. This is really just stylized by a blind man. It’s not normal anymore. And that makeup too! It’s too white, it’s like a dragon that woman. Shoot me. I didn’t like the look of it.”

Van Rossems on two

The most watched alternative for the Eurovision Song Contest was NPO 2’s Here Are De Van Rossems with 731 thousand viewers (15%). Immediately afterwards, Nieuwsuur attracted 377 thousand viewers (7%).

The bronze is for RTL 4’s Oh Wat Een Jaar with 627 thousand viewers (14%); immediately afterwards, Richard Groenendijk: Om Alles had 217 thousand (4%). The SBS 6 combination Code of Coppens and Impossible Duets attracted 316 thousand (7%) and 311 thousand viewers (6%).

Viewing figures

Other programs that did not make the top 15 include Shownieuws (333 thousand), De Grote Tuinverbouwing (223 thousand) and the Giro d’Italia on Eurosport (210 thousand).
