The water jumpers Tina Punzel and Lou Massenberg are European champions in the synchronous mixed competition from the three-meter board. Christina Wassen got another medal from the tower.

On Wednesday (08/17/2022), the duo from Dresden and Berlin won the first medal for the German water jumpers and repeated their gold coup at the 2018 European Championships.

The duo Tina Punzel and Lou Massenber received 294.69 points for their five jumps. They relegated Grace Reid/James Heatly from Great Britain (290.76) and the World Championship runners-up Chiara Pellacani/Matteo Santoro (283.56) to the medal ranks.

Confirmation for the work of the last years

“It went better than I thought. I was counting on the Italians even more,” said Punzel. The goal was to retrieve the training performance. “The fact that we can now be at the top again after 2018 is incredible confirmation of the work we have done in recent years,” said the Dresden native. Massenberg added: “I was shaking before the last jump. But when I touched the water, I knew it was good and enough for a medal.”

Wassen on the pedestal

Christina Wassen was responsible for the second medal of the day in the water jump. In the competition from the tower, the Berliner scored 314.10 points and was third. Gold went to Britain’s Andrea Spendolini Sirieix with 333.60 points ahead of Ukraine’s Sofija Lyskun (329.80). The second German starter, Pauline Pfeif, took fourth place.
