For the first time in history since it was awarded in a single match (1998), the European Super Cup will be awarded in Italy. The announcement came at the end of the UEFA Executive Committee, held today in Lausanne: the “Bluenergy Stadium” in Udine will host the match between the winning team of the Champions League and the Europa League on 13 August 2025.

The last time that a European Super Cup final was played in an Italian stadium was for the 21st edition, the one relating to the 1996 season, which was still awarded in a double home and away match: on 5 February 1997, at the “Barbera” in Palermo, Marcello Lippi’s European champion Juventus defeated PSG 3-1 and, after a 6-1 win in the first leg, won the trophy. Who knows if this time, 28 years later, there will still be an Italian on the pitch…

UEFA has also designated the host country for the semi-finals and finals of the Nations League, scheduled for 4 to 8 June next year. The four matches will be held in Germany, in the stadiums of Munich and Stuttgart, provided that the Germans eliminate Italy in the quarterfinals. Otherwise, Turin will host the Nations League Finals.
