European stock exchange in green: STOXX 50 climbs at the end of trading

The STOXX 50 posted gains on the first day of the week.

On Monday, the STOXX 50 moved 0.26 percent higher at 4,313.77 points via STOXX at the close of trading. In Monday trading, the STOXX 50 was 0.311 percent higher at 4,316.00 points, after 4,302.61 points the previous day.

The STOXX 50’s low on Monday was 4,303.97 units, while the index reached its highest level at 4,320.75 points.

A month ago, STOXX trading was suspended for the weekend. On the previous trading day, February 2nd, 2024, the STOXX 50 traded at 4,206.37 points. Just three months ago, on December 4th, 2023, the STOXX 50 price was 4,019.45 points. A year ago, STOXX trading was suspended for weekend reasons. On the previous trading day, March 3, 2023, the STOXX 50 was quoted at 3,924.59 points.

Looking ahead to 2024, the index has already climbed by 5.42 percent. The STOXX 50 has hit an annual high so far at 4,320.75 points. The annual low, however, was reached at 4,010.21 points.

Today’s tops and flops in the STOXX 50

The top stocks in the STOXX 50 are currently Munich Reinsurance Company (+ 1.15 percent to EUR 429.70), SAP SE (+ 1.08 percent to EUR 175.22), National Grid (+ 0.43 percent to 10.40 GBP), GSK (+ 0.36 percent to 16.68 GBP) and ABB (Asea Brown Boveri) (+ 0.20 percent to 40.82 CHF). Meanwhile, the weakest STOXX 50 stocks are BASF (-1.84 percent to EUR 47.10), BAT (-1.73 percent to GBP 22.94), Diageo (-1.13 percent to GBP 29.30), Bayer (-0.88 percent to EUR 28.08) and HSBC (-0.82 percent to GBP 6.08).

In the STOXX 50, BP shares currently stand out with the largest trading volume. Most recently, 20,932,144 shares were traded via STOXX. In terms of market capitalization, the Novo Nordisk share is the dominant share in the STOXX 50 with 508.903 billion euros.

According to FactSet estimates, Bayer shares have the lowest price-earnings ratio (P/E) in the STOXX 50 in 2024 at 5.17. According to FactSet estimates, HSBC shares are expected to have the strongest dividend yield of 10.22 percent in 2024 compared to their competitors in the index.
