European Parliament calls for legislation against problematic smartphone use

European legislation must be introduced that tackles problematic smartphone and internet use. This is the opinion of the European Parliament, which is asking the European Commission to update consumer protection legislation accordingly. “No amount of self-discipline can defeat the tricks of Big Tech, fueled by armies of designers and psychologists to keep you glued to your screen. If we do not act now, this will have consequences for the mental health and brain development of future generations,” says the Dutch Kim van Sparrentak (GroenLinks).
