European League: Füchse Berlin, Rhein-Neckar Löwen and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf reach the main round

Handball Bundesliga team Füchse Berlin is in the main round of the European League early after a show of strength.

Coach Jaron Siewert’s team achieved their fourth win in their fourth game with a 33:32 (16:17) win at Dinamo Bucharest and can no longer be pushed out of one of the top two places. The Rhein-Neckar Löwen and TSV Hannover-Burgdorf are also further.

In the Romanian capital, Berlin had to fight until the end. The defending champions also weakened themselves with a red card against Marko Kopljar. The Croatian had to stay out in the 42nd minute after his third time penalty. In the end, the eight goals from Danish world champion Mathias Gidsel helped the Foxes return home with a win.

Meanwhile, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen won 39:30 (20:17) against Benfica Lisbon and can therefore also plan for the main round. The top scorers Juri Knorr and Jannik Kohlbacher played a large part in the clear success. The German national players each contributed nine goals.

As with the home win the previous week, Hannover ultimately prevailed confidently 34:29 (16:16) at AEK Athens after start-up problems. The “Recken” impressed even without their coach Christian Prokop, who had stayed at home sick. The Belarusian Uladsislau Kulesch was the most successful thrower for Lower Saxony with six hits.
