SG Flensburg-Handewitt can continue to dream of the title defense in handball European League. In a dramatic semi -finals, the North Germans prevailed on Saturday at the final Four in Hamburg against the MT Melsungen after extra time with 35:34 (16:15, 28:28).

The second semi -finals between the THW Kiel and Montpellier will kick off today at 6 p.m. On Sunday (6 p.m.) the final is about a winning bonus of 100,000 euros, the prestige and above all a title. Melsungen is about bronze on Sunday at 3 p.m.: The club must continue to wait for its first title win.

In mid-April, the MT lost to the THW Kiel in the DHB Cup final. It remains the Bundesliga, where the Melsung team of coach Roberto García Parrondo are in second place with four outstanding games with leader Füchse Berlin.

“Kevin Möller was outstanding.”
-SG coach Ales Pajovic

SG captain Johannes Golla described the semi-finals against Melsungen as a real highlight, “because it was absolutely a game on knife cutting edge”, as the national player said in an interview with the NDR. “Our fans, who fill a whole corner and are by far the loudest, make something very special, of course.

For Lasse Möller there was no question of who the man of the day was: “Kevin Möller in the goal was a huge difference. Of course, that helps so much.” SG coach Ales Pajovic came into the same horn: “Kevin was outstanding, he always kept us in the game.”

Goalkeeper Kevin Möller A strong backing of the SG

At the Flensburgers, the old Swede in the team, Jim Gottfridsson, should steer the game in the semifinals. Lasse Möller, who had most recently played in the failed Bundesliga home game against the Rhein-Neckar Löwen in the middle, occupied the position in the left back space-the Dane put a lot of physicality in the MT team with its 1.99 meters on the defensive on the 2.15 m Latvian Dainis in the MT team.

Flensburg was well in the game against the North Hesse, which in the current Bundesliga season have a whopping eight more points – which was primarily due to the fact that goalkeeper Kevin Möller was immediately back with strong parades. With 11: 9, the SG led after 18 minutes. Soon afterwards, the 32-year-old Gottfridsson, who will switch to the Hungarian Club Pick Szeged in Flensburg in the summer after twelve years, took care of the first three-goal lead (14:11, 22nd).

Flensburg awards chance Four-goal lead

Five minutes before the break, “Kevin Möller!” Called the SG fans through the Hamburg Arena. And rightly so! The Danish national goalkeeper had recently warded off a free throw in the Kristopan, which was launched to the district position, brilliantly. It was Möller’s seventh parade, his quota was 37 percent at that time.

Flensburg then missed the opportunity to pull away to four goals. After an interesting first half, the SG went into the cabin with a 16:15.

Morawski saves Melsungen into the extension

At the beginning of the second half, Lasse Möller stood on the field again, the Dane was kinked with his foot in the first half. His name colleague continued where he had stopped in the first round. His parade against Kristopans’ litter was already the twelfth in total. However, MT keeper Adam Morawski also increased. The Flensburgers were now becoming increasingly difficult to score hits.

Melsungen used the offensive on the offensive – Timo Kastening achieved 23:21 (47th) by seven meters. Flensburg now stuck strongly, came up and took the lead again with 26:25 (55th). At 28:28, Flensburg still had an attack, but Lasse Möller’s litter parried Morawski – extension!

Kirkelökke throws Flensburg-Handewitt to the final

In the first five minutes things went well for the SG. Möller continued to hold strongly and the chances were used at the front. At the break of the extension, Flensburg led 32:30. After a Morawski parade, Kristopans equalized to 33:33 (68th). Niclas Kirkelökke scored 40 seconds before the end for 35:34 for the SG.
