The blue booty at the European Championships has risen to eight medals, a primacy never previously made. Tomorrow the closure with the mixed team race

Italy has closed individual competitions with the European championships in the Mel Hall Moraca in Podgorica with a bang. On the fourth day reserved for heavy categories, in fact, he conquered two other medals with Udinese Asya Tavano, third in the +78 kg and with the Neapolitan Gennaro Pirelli, third in the 100 kg. The blue booty at the European Championships in Montenegro has thus climbed to eight medals, a primacy never previously made, given that until now the record was stopped at the seven medals conquered in 2002 in Maribor, with the gold of Cinzia Cavazzuti, a silver and five bronzes.

The Bronzes of Tavano and Pirelli

Two extraordinary races, both that of Asya Tavano, a 22 -year -old Udinese who put the bronze medal for the third time around the neck, after Sofia 2022 and Montpellier 2023, both that of Gennaro Pirelli, Neapolitan, 24 years old, already third last year in Zagreb. Tavano started the race by placing a lever in the arm (Ude Garami) to the Serbian Milica Zabic, redeeming the defeat suffered last summer in the first round of the Olympics, then repeating himself with the strong Turkish Hilal Ozturk, paid in 30 seconds with another similar lever. In the semifinal with the Israeli Raz Hershko, number three of the world ranking, Tavano was unable to contain the exuberance of the rival, but then presented herself particularly lucid and motivated in the final for third place in front of the Dutch Marit Kamps. It was a fairly balanced head to head, except for two sanctions to the Dutchman, then resolved definitely by the tavano with an Ippon immobilization. There were five fights played by Gennaro Pirelli, always with his head held high, always ready to challenge anyone and, above all, making any opponent crazy. And with three penalties he first eliminated Iosif Simin (ISR) and then Georgios Kroussaniotakis (CYP). Once passed for Yuko (or Soto Gari) in the quarterfinals by Ilia Sulamanidze (Geo), then winner of the title, Pirelli first won the recovery with the Dutch Michael Korrel with three penalties and then won the bronze medal by scoring a Yuko in the Golden Score with the Ukrainian Anton Savytskiy. In the +78 kg, Erica Simonetti also competed and, after winning the opening meeting with the Ukrainian Ruslana Bulavina was stopped by the French Fontaine.

The latest effort

On Sunday the continental review ends with the mixed team race and for the blue team it is an opportunity to round off the medals record. The race starts at 10 and the draw reserved the first round with Poland to Italy.
