European Handball Federation excludes Vardar Skopje

The European Handball Federation (EHF) has suspended North Macedonian champions Vardar Skopje from European Cup competitions for the 2022/23 season.

As reported by the EHF, the Executive Committee’s decision follows a two-year period in which Vardar failed to make the contractually promised payments to its players.

“The European competition system at club level has a highly sensitive structure and depends very much on the integrity of the participating clubs. This asset must be protected,” said an EHF statement. The place of the North Macedonians could now be awarded in the wildcard procedure.

Skopje won the Champions League in 2017 and 2019. In the past season, the club played in a preliminary round group with THW Kiel and failed in the playoff round at the Hungarian representative Telekom Veszprem.
