Elena Linik won European Championship gold in the Canadian singles at the European Games in Poland on Sunday (July 2nd, 2023). For them it is a first that secures another quota place for the slalom canoeists for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Augsburg native prevailed in the final of the title fights at the European Games in Kraków on Sunday, after having already dominated the qualification and the semi-finals.

Despite touching the goal post, she relegated the Poles Klaudia Zwolinska and Mallory Franklin from Great Britain to the further medal ranks. At the same time, the 24-year-old secured another quota place for the German association for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Olympic champion Ricarda Funk did the same on Saturday by winning the title in kayak singles.

Zeitz made it into the top 5 as the best German

Timo Trummer from Zeitz took fifth place among the men. It was his best result so far in an international C1 championship. Franz Anton was eighth, Olympic bronze medalist Sideris Tasiadis missed the finals, as did the women’s world champion Andrea Herzog and her Leipzig teammate Nele Bayn. Ryan Westley from Great Britain became European Champion.

At the Summer Games, only one athlete per nation may start in the kayak, canoe and kayak-cross boat classes. The respective winning nations of the continental championships have a guaranteed starting place. The remaining quota places will be awarded at the World Championships in London in September. These are not personal. In Germany, the Olympic ticket will be distributed next spring at the national qualifying competitions.

Rmadan’s teammate Anis Triqui had previously missed the gold medal in the same class up to 63 kilograms in the final against the Italian Ivan Penzo (0:3).
