European Figure Skating Championship: Janna Jyrkinen, eighth in the short program

The Finnish debutant reached the top eight in the European Championships.

Finnish promise Janna Jyrkinen15, skated a convincing debut at the European Figure Skating Championships on Thursday.

Jyrkinen was no less than eighth in the short program of the games organized in Espoo.

Jyrkinen got 60.77 points for his short program.

The record scores were close. The young promise’s pirouettes and step sequence were judged to be of the most difficult level.

– The goal was to skate a clean program, which was successful, and I’m happy about it. All jumps and pirouettes went well. When I stepped on the ice, the encouragement was so great that even the tension eased, Jyrkinen said in the announcement of the Taitoluisteliito.

With his performance, Jyrkinen claimed a place in the free program competition, where the best 24 of the short program can enter.

– I am happy to go to the free program. My goal is to skate a successful program and enjoy skating.

The free program will be skated on Saturday. Georgia leads the competition after the short program Anastasia Gubanova with a score of 69.81.

Pre-favourite Loena Hendrickx is second (67.85) and Kimmy Repond third (63.83).
