European Commission relativizes withdrawal of the legislative proposal

The Green Claims Directive-also known as an anti-Green Washing Act-may not be withdrawn. A spokeswoman for the European Commission made it clear that a withdrawal would only take place if a certain recently introduced change application remains.

This is a proposal that also includes small and medium -sized companies (SME) in the area of ​​application of the directive. According to Paula Pinho, director of the General Directorate for the Environment of the EU Commission, this amendment would result in around 13 million additional companies underlay the guidelines. This would affect around 96 percent of all companies.

However, the Commission again emphasized that one of its essential goals was to reduce the administrative expenditure for SMEs. Pinho pointed out that the amendment application was not yet a final version. However, if this is preserved in the final legislative acquisition, the Commission will withdraw the directive.

Negotiations on the final design of the law are currently underway. A round of negotiations originally scheduled for Monday, June 23, was canceled at short notice.

Last week it was initially known that the EU Commission was withdrawing its support for the project. This decision was initially not explained in more detail. Now the position of the Commission has been specified.
