Poland has missed the first deadline for paying the penalty imposed by the European Court of Justice for refusing to close the Turów lignite mine, near the border with the Czech Republic. The Commission will now deduct the amount owed from European subsidies intended for Poland, a spokesman announced on Wednesday.
