Pole vault (F): Knäsche sovereign over 4.25 meters

Anjuli Knäsche also takes the second height of 4.25 meters in the first attempt and continues on course for the final. Anyone who masters 4.55 meters is sure to be there, otherwise it will be the best twelve athletes. Jacqueline Otchere tore the 4.25 meters in the first attempt.

Marathon (F): The race has started

The first medal decision of the day has started! The marathon leads the 63 starters through Munich city center at a temperature that is still bearable at 22 degrees, where a number of spectators have gone outside to cheer on the athletes at Marienplatz, for example. With Miriam Dattke, Kristina Hendel, Domenika Mayer, Deborah Schöneborn, Rabea Schöneborn and Katharina Steinruck, six German runners are taking part.

10:36

Shot put (M): Bayer in the final

That was close! In the last attempt, Simon Bayer climbed another nine centimeters to 19.91 meters, trumping the Ukrainian Roman Kokoshko (19.86 m) and just about secured twelfth and final starting place for the final in the evening. The Serb Armin Sinančević won the qualification with a brilliant throw from 21.82 meters.

10:30 a.m

Pole Vault (F): Qualification in progress

In the meantime, the pole vaulters have started their qualification. With Jacqueline Otchere and Anjuli Knäsche, Germany is sending two athletes into the competition. Both get on at 4.10 meters and take the first height with ease.

10:26

Decathlon: Mayer gives up!

In the third and last 100-meter run of the decathletes, the Swiss Simon Ehammer shines with a strong 10.56 seconds and is thus clearly in the lead overall. Meanwhile, a drama is unfolding around Kevin Mayer. The world champion has to take out after 50 meters, apparently has muscular problems and more or less limps to the finish. The Frenchman needs 11.67 seconds and is out of this decathlon!

10:19

Decathlon: second heat drama

The second 100-meter race of the decathletes is overshadowed by two false starts. First, Kai Kazmirek is on the road too early, then Arthur Abele twitches. Both then hold back noticeably at the third start, but still achieve decent times. Kazmirek checks in after 11.15 seconds, Abele after 11.24 seconds.

10:14

Shot put (M): Staněk already in the final

Tomáš Staněk was the first shot putter in qualifying to throw the required 21.15 meters and certainly qualified for the final with 21.39 meters. Simon Bayer was able to increase his height to 19.82 meters in the second attempt and can at least hope, but he probably still has to improve.

10:06

Decathlon: Kaul starts properly

Now the decathlon is on! In the first of three runs, Germany’s hope for a medal, Niklas Kaul, will be at the start. The 24-year-old was aiming for a personal best over 100 meters for the start and that works! Behind the sprinting Norwegian Martin Roe and the Czech Adam Sebastian Helcelet, Kaul finished third in 11.16 seconds and improved by one hundredth. Tim Nowak is seventh in 11.51 seconds.

10:03

Shot put (M): Qualification with Simon Bayer

The track and field competitions in the Olympic Stadium are about to begin with the shot put qualification. The German colors are represented by Simon Bayer, the ten-time German champion David Storl could not qualify. Bayer definitely wants to make it into the final of the top twelve, the top favorite for the title is Poland’s Konrad Bukowiecki, who has the best distance of the current season at 21.91 meters.

09:53

Table tennis (M): The first group games

In the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle, the men are on the table tennis table for the first time this morning. While the five German participants are still allowed to take a break because, as seeded players, they will only play on Wednesday, Belgian Martin Allegro has already booked his first win. Against the Serbs Aleksandar Karakašević he managed a smooth 3:0.

09:41

Kaul wants to attack

While Abele is at the start in Munich without great ambitions, Niklas Kaul wants to attack the medals. After sixth place at the World Championships in Eugene, the 24-year-old is ready to do great things in front of his home crowd. “Objectively, of course, a World Cup is worth more, but a European Championship in my own country is more valuable for me personally,” said Kaul, who wants to be “better than ever” prepared. In addition to Kaul and Abele, there are two other Germans in the tooth fight, Kai Kazmirek and Tim Nowak. World champion and world record holder Kevin Mayer from France will also be honored.

09:35

Arthur Abele’s last major appearance

These European Championships will be the last major performance for a star of German athletics. At the age of 36, decathlete Arthur Abele will measure himself against international competition for the last time. And that as the defending champion, because in 2018 Abele sensationally crowned himself European champion in the decathlon. However, he considers another coup to be “unrealistic” after a shoulder operation and without real competition practice. “But I want to be in the top eight again. That’s my goal,” said Abele.

09:22

Marathon and decathlon

At 10 a.m. there will also be a round in the Olympic Stadium. The shot putters open the athletics competitions with their qualification. A little later the decathlon starts with the 100 meter races. At 10:30 a.m. the starting shot will be fired for the first decision of this European Championship when the women start their marathon. An hour later, the men are also fighting for precious metals.

09:17

Group stage in table tennis

The day will start at 9:30 a.m. in the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle with further table tennis games from the group phase. Later, the German ladies Annett Kaufmann and Franziska Schreiner will also be in action, both of whom have already won their first group game. The German men don’t have to go to the plate in the group stage. Timo Boll, Benedikt Duda, Dang Qiu, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Franziska are all seeded for the round of the top 64 players and will only play in the tournament on Wednesday.

09:07
