European Championship | EM-Aus for France’s stars Katoto after cruciate ligament rupture

Co-favourites France will be without star striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto for the remainder of the European Women’s Football Championship.

The 23-year-old tore a cruciate ligament in her right knee in the 2-1 (2-1) game in the second group game against Belgium, as the French association announced. This was confirmed by investigations on Friday. Katoto injured his knee early in Thursday’s game in Rotherham and had to be substituted after 17 minutes.

The attacking players should now return to their club Paris Saint-Germain. The association did not provide any information on the national player’s downtime, but wished Katoto a good and speedy recovery. France is considered to be one of the favorites of the tournament and, like Germany, won the second game in the second tournament game and advanced to the quarter-finals as group winner on Thursday.
