Kira Toussaint from Assendelft took bronze in the 100-meter backstroke at the European Championships in Rome. In an exciting race, the gold went to Italy’s Margaritha Panziera.

Medi Harris from England took silver. Halfway through Toussaint was third, but in the last part of the race the 28-year-old from North Holland came up well. She was overtaken in the final meters. “You have to be happy with a medal at such a tournament. I came here to win, but I am very happy with bronze,” Toussaint told NOS afterwards.

Swimmer Marrit Steenbergen took a medal again today. This time it was silver in the 200-meter medley. Steenbergen previously won four golds and one bronze at the European Championships.
