Will FC Bayern grab a European champion? The people of Munich are reportedly interested in at least one. It would be anything but inexpensive.

Nico Williams secured the European Championship title in Germany with the Spanish national team last summer, also eliminating the DFB team in the quarter-finals. The 22-year-old was one of the best players of the tournament, including scoring a goal in the final against England in Berlin. In the end, Spain won 2-1.

Williams could soon end up in the Bundesliga. As the pay-TV broadcaster Sky and “Bild” both report, FC Bayern are said to be interested in the winger. Williams is currently still under contract with his long-standing club Athletic Bilbao. But in the summer he could take a new step. To Germany?

According to Sky, Bayern would at least keep an eye on Williams. It is also said that they want to strengthen their wings with one or two top wing players next summer. This also has to do with the situation of some current professionals in this position: Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and the loaned Bryan Zaragoza.

For example, Sané’s contract expires in the summer, Gnabry’s until 2026. Coman, who has a working paper until 2027, almost moved in the last transfer period. However, his departure to Saudi Arabia fell apart. Zaragoza has not been able to impress in Munich after his signing a year ago, was loaned to Osasuna and is currently out injured with a broken metatarsal.

According to the portal “transfermarkt.de”, Nico Williams’ market value is currently 70 million euros. Bayern would probably have to pay a little less for the offensive player next summer. Still, it wouldn’t be a bargain. Sky is assuming a sum between 50 and 60 million euros.

The “Bild” speaks of an exit clause of 60 million euros. Williams is also said to receive a high salary in Bilbao. However, Bayern had already scouted him in the past and placed him high on an internal list for future wingers. Williams’ contract in Bilbao runs until 2027.
