In Geneva, European, American and Ukrainian envoys are negotiating a counter-proposal to the 28-point plan that American President Trump put on the table last week and which seemed tailor-made for Moscow. The counter-proposal focuses on security guarantees for Ukraine, in addition to giving up Ukrainian territory and the frozen Russian billions. According to defense specialist Roger Housen, it is unthinkable that the deadline for a peace agreement will be met next Thursday. “Trump wants to eat a whole loaf of bread, but it will be difficult to get Moscow to swallow even one loaf.”
