Europa League results, Sevilla 1-0 West Ham: Munir’s goal

Rangers mortgage the passage to the quarter-finals by liquidating the Red Star 3-0, Monaco fall 2-0 at Sprting Braga

First the victory of Sevilla with El Haddadi, then the successes of Rangers, Atalanta, Braga and the 0-0 of Barcelona. In the first leg of the round of 16 of the Europa League – with the exception of the blaugrana – all the home teams win, who thus move forward in the challenge to snatch a ticket for access to the quarterfinals. Atalanta passes thanks to goals from Malinovskyi and the rediscovered Muriel (brace), for the Scots, however, the goals Tavernier and Morelos are decisive. Only one draw for the Catalans against Galatasaray, while Braga’s goals from Abel Ruiz and Carvalho are enough to beat Monaco.

SEVILLA-WEST HAM 1-0

The first round of the match between the Lopetegui and Moyes teams was won by the Spaniards, on the pitch at the Sanchez Pizjuàn Stadium at 6.45pm. Deprived of the injured Suso, Fernando, Lamela, Rekik, Diego Carlos and Papu Gomez, El Haddadi is enough for the hosts to go and play the return to England with two out of three results available. After 4 minutes the Moroccan himself becomes dangerous, entering with the right timing for a header that ends by a whisker to the side of the goal. Shortly after, West Ham respond with a gore from Vlasic but Bono is ready and dismisses. At the stroke of half an hour, the Croatian himself tries a razor burn from the edge of the area, the Sevilla goalkeeper closes the door but deflects for a corner. At the beginning of the second half, the conclusions – one for each side – of Soucek and En-Nesyri are inaccurate, in the 60 ‘the Andalusian advantage arrives with El Haddadi: Acuna crosses from the right on a free kick, the ball ends up on the other starts where there is the 26-year-old who, free to kick, overtakes Areola with a flying right aimed at the far post. In the final game, double thrill for the Spaniards, close to doubling with Ocampos. Jesus Navas, on the other hand, manages to block Lanzini’s right foot (West Ham), who seemed to be headed for goal. 1-0 the final result for Sevilla, next week the Hammers will be forced to look for a comeback to go through.

RANGERS-RED STAR 3-0

The Scots dominate in the comparison with Stankovic’s team, who fields Piccini from 1 ‘and instead leaves the other Italian Filippo Falco on the bench. After 3 minutes it is the guests who find the goal with a right-footed shot from Katai, then canceled due to an irregular position of the assistant Ivanic at the moment of the pass. The thrill of the possible disadvantage gives Rangers a shock, who in the 10 ‘go ahead with Tavernier, due to a penalty awarded for a foul by Srnic against Kent. In the fourteenth minute, referee Gozubuyuk canceled another goal for Katai’s offside. A turn of the clock passes, and Morelos scores 2-0: on the development of a corner kick, the ball ends up near the Colombian, who sends first intention with the right behind Borjan. After the two irregular goals, in the 24th minute Katai again has the opportunity to shorten the distance from eleven meters: McGregor however manages to parry his shot from the spot, keeping his double advantage. At the beginning of the second half Balogun’s trio arrives, who uses Tavernier’s corner to jump higher than everyone else, thus mortgaging his qualification.

BRAGA-MONACO 2-0

One goal at the opening and one at the end, to win the first leg and play the return match in the Principality of Monaco with greater serenity. Abel Ruiz took advantage of a rebound following Rodrigo Gomes ‘shot to make him the ball and kick into the net after 3’, overtaking Nubel and giving him 1-0. Just Gomes almost doubled after ten minutes, while Vanderson and Ben Yedder try to answer for Monaco: their shots, however, do not make Matheus tremble. Between 30 ‘and 35’, Zwayer canceled two goals from the guests for offside: the goals of Gelson Martins and Ben Yedder are spoiled by an irregular position. In the middle, at 32 ‘Horta (Braga) touches the 2-0 with a bolide from the distance that the Monaco goalkeeper manages to deflect to the side. In the second half the guests are still pushing in search of the 1-1, Gelson Martins twice wasted the opportunity to equalize, first by finding Matheus’ save and then touching the crossbar. One minute from the end of regular time, the newcomer Carvalho signs the doubling with a header, rewarding Fabiano’s cross from the right. Clement’s team will therefore need a three-goal lead next week to be able to go through after the defeat at Sporting.

BARça 0-0 GALATASARAY

After the success in the round of 32 against Napoli, Xavi Hernandez does not go into the first knockout round, only making up a 0-0 in the Camp Nou match against the Turkish club. On the pitch with the trident made up of Traoré, Ferran Torres and Depay, the Blaugrana dominate in possession of the ball, without however piercing the Giallorossi defense. The first thrill of the match dates back to the 28th minute, when Depay looks for the goal directly from a free-kick, but finds Inaki Pena promptly rejected. Ten minutes later, Galatasaray’s response came with Akturkoglu, but his shot from the edge ended just over the crossbar. The visiting goalkeeper also deflects Depay’s conclusions – at the end of the first half – and Busquets – in the 59th minute -, in the last half hour Barça raises the pace and tries again with Jordi Alba, Dembelè and De Jong, hitting the post. At 68 ‘Torrent the Bafatembi Gomis card is played, which after less than ten minutes signs the sensational advantage: following a check by the VAR, however, the referee Bastien cancels the goal for offside of a Turkish player during the action that led to the goal. Barcelona’s goalless draw therefore postpones any verdict to the return match, scheduled for Thursday 17 March at the Turk Telekom stadium in Istanbul.
