The German 2014 world champion Jérôme Boateng can hope for the semi-finals in the Europa League with Olympique Lyon despite a major mistake.

In a 45-minute majority, the French drew 1-1 (0-0) in the first leg of the quarter-finals at English Premier League club West Ham United on Thursday.

Boateng was initially unlucky on Thursday in London’s Olympic Stadium: He lost the ball in his own penalty area, then tried to save Jarrod Bowen’s shot, but deflected the ball over his own goalkeeper into the goal (52′).

Tanguy Ndombele (66th) equalized for Olympique.

Like Lyon, Sporting Braga are still hoping for their first European Cup victory.

In the second quarter-final first leg without a German club, the Portuguese defeated the Scottish BVB conquerors Glasgow Rangers 1-0 (1-0) with a goal by Abel Ruiz (40th).

Both duels are still open before the second leg in a week.
