Fonseca’s Lyon closes the group first: 4-2 against Paok, who will still make the play-offs. Emery’s Aston Villa finished second: Salzburg recovered from 0-2, defeated 3-2 and eliminated. Suicide by Young Boys: after coming back from 0-2, they lose 3-2 in the 90th minute against Stuttgart and slip to 25th place on goal difference compared to Brann, who instead fly to the play-offs despite the defeat against Sturm Graz. Midtjylland, Betis, Porto, Braga and Freiburg, together with Roma, are the other teams that fly directly to the round of 16 of the Europa League. A penalty from Giroud in the 92nd minute earned Lille 18th place, Ludogorets beat Nice 1-0 and qualified for the play-offs.

Dinamo Zagreb was lucky as, despite the 2-0 defeat by Midtjylland, they managed to secure a 23rd place which was worth the play-offs. Feyenoord finishes in the worst way possible: losing 2-1 at Betis and saying goodbye to the competition. Celtic earns the playoff slot by beating Utrecht 4-2 at home, Red Star-Celta Vigo ends 1-1, while Steaua Bucharest is stopped at home by Fenerbahce (1-1) and doesn’t even come close to qualifying. Between Go Ahead Eagles and Braga a 0-0 which only consolidates a place in the round of 16 for the Portuguese. Genk beat Malmo 2-1, but finished ninth on goal difference against Roma and had to settle for the play-offs. Ferencvaros doesn’t even try for the G8 and is overwhelmed by Nottingham Forest 4-0: both will play in the play-offs.
