Euroleague basketball: Teodosic returns and Virtus beats Bayern

Since 2007 it is the first victory of the Bologna team in the major competition. The Serbian play lights up the attack. Now it’s up to Milan to host the Alba Berlin

Virtus Bologna returns to victory in the Euroleague after almost 15 years. It was November 29, 2007 when the then VidiVici beat Olimpia Lubiana 101-91. On the second day of the regular season, Sergio Scariolo’s team defeated Andrea Trinchieri’s Bayern Munich 66-63. Now it’s up to Milan to host the Alba Berlin.

The ultimate thrill

The return of Milos Teodosic who missed the start of the season due to a hip problem was decisive. The Serbian playmaker only played 14 minutes but with his 9 points, 3 assists (and at least as many not exploited by his teammates) he changed the face of Virtus in attack from the first triple he took as soon as he entered after three minutes. Bayern remained in the game despite the low shooting percentages (25 percent from two and 38 from three) also thanks to the 19 turnovers by Virtus, 4 of which by Teodosic and Jordan Mickey. In the end, the German team had two three-point opportunities to win the game but Lucic’s shots first and Hunter didn’t go in. Virtus had reached a 13-point lead in the last quarter with a 16-0 run that started in the third, only to be recovered little by little until the final thrill.

Next Tuesday the first away match of the season, in Kaunas, against Zalgiris. It will be the first week with two games: on Thursday Virtus will be in Belgrade against Partizan.

Virtus: Lundberg 13, Theodosic and Weems 9.
Bayern: Weiler-Babb 16, Lucic 15, Jaramaz 7.
