Switzerland will replace Russia in the Euro Hockey Tour in Sweden in May. The Russian national hockey team was thrown out of the four-team tournament when Russia attacked Ukraine.

The Lions will face off in the opening match of the Swiss tournament on May 5th. The game will be played in Tampere’s new arena.

The other matches of the tournament will be held at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, formerly known as Globen.

– Great that we got Switzerland into the tournament. Along with the Czech Republic and Sweden, Switzerland will certainly offer Lion a good resistance on the eve of the World Cup, the A national team GM Jere Lehtinen says in a press release.

The Swedish EHT tournament is usually played in February. The Games were postponed to May due to the Beijing Olympics.

The Finnish Ice Hockey World Championships will start a week later.

– From the team’s point of view, it is great that we can play one match on the World Cup stage before the start of the race event. It is easier to go to the competition when the environment is familiar, Lehtinen says.

The Czech EHT tournament will be played from April 28 to January 1. May.

The World Cup will begin on May 13th.
