In a fifth package of EU sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, the commission also wants to ban Russian and Belarusian road transporters from the EU. In addition, she proposes an export ban for, among other things, large (quantum) computers and semiconductors. Wood and cement products, seafood and spirits from Russia are no longer welcome in the EU, if it is up to the committee.
President Ursula von der Leyen said an oil import ban is still under consideration, she said in a special video statement.
The proposals, which the committee estimates will cost Russia billions in revenue, will be discussed by EU ambassadors on Wednesday.
