EU sends resources against biological or nuclear disaster to Ukraine

The European Union is sending 300,000 protective suits, 5,600 liters of disinfectant and equipment for decontamination operations to Ukraine to treat patients in the event of a chemical, biological or radiological attack or nuclear disaster. In addition, the country will receive respirators, infusion pumps and monitors for hospitals and protective clothing for healthcare personnel. The items have a value of 11.3 million euros.

The funds come from a strategic stockpile that the EU has built up in recent months, partly amid concerns about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the threat of nuclear, chemical, biological or radiological attack. In April, 3 million potassium iodide pills were already sent to Ukraine.

The government in Kiev itself had asked for the items. They are delivered from warehouses in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Hungary and Greece.
