EssilorLuxottica appoints CEO Francesco Milleri as Chairman

After the death of the previous chairman Leonardo Del Vecchio last week, the eyewear company EssilorLuxottica immediately filled the post: Francesco Milleri will take over as chairman of the board of directors until the end of the current term of office, the company announced.

Despite the new role, Milleri will remain CEO of the group, and his deputy Paul du Saillant will also retain his previous position. Mario Notari was newly appointed to the Board of Directors. The law professor had already held a director’s post at Luxottica Group SpA from 2014 to 2018.

Leonardo Del Vecchio passed away on Monday last week at the age of 87. He founded the eyewear manufacturer Luxottica in 1961 and then built it into one of the world’s most important companies in this industry. After the merger with the French competitor Essilor International SA in 2018, he remained the major shareholder of the entire group and took over the chairmanship of the board of directors.
