Esposito at Basel is getting noticed: but only off the pitch

Last summer the Basel has decided to entrust one of the posts in the offensive department to Sebastiano Esposito. The center forward, owned byInterhad just returned from a season at Venice (in Serie B) disappointing from the point of view of construction. The landing in Switzerland was a real opportunity to shine.

And in fact the adventure at Basel had started in the best way: 3 goals in the first three of the Super League (Swiss championship). Around the boy there was a lot of positive energy, confidence that he had found the right place to experience and show off his qualities. Then something tilted.

Between September and December he accuses several injuries that keep him off the pitch for a good number of games. The 9th of December is played Basel-Qarabag, match valid for the groups of Conference League. Esposito is recovered and is present on the bench.

The technician Patrick Rahmen decides to throw him into the fray ten minutes from the end, and the 3-0 lead for the Swiss club. Esposito, however, refuses to enter the field.

Rahmen does not put down the behavior of the center forward and excludes him from the squad for the match, a few days later, against Servette. Esposito, then, will leave on the bench for two other league matches: on the second of these, he enters 30 ‘from the end and 89’ gets sent off to go head to head against an opponent. Two days of disqualification and subsequent post Instagram in which the 19-year-old striker writes: “It’s time to become a man”.

Meanwhile, however, even Basel is struggling. Far from the top in the league and out of the Swiss Cup, the club decided to sack the coach Rahmen with whom, it was understood, Esposito did not have a great relationship.

The striker’s actions return to the spotlight when he decides to like the Basel post Instagram where Rahmen’s release is announced.

We come, therefore, to the controversies of the last few hours: where Kubilay Türkyılmazformer striker of the Bologna and today a columnist for the Swiss newspaper Blicksharply criticized Esposito: “He should be the ambassador of a champion club like Inter, but instead of drawing attention to himself with his performances, it only makes headlines with its releases. […] instead of putting the like, he should have been crying because his coach had to leave and he was unable to support him with reasonable performances and with the behavior of a professional athlete. “

Harsh words to a boy who has not lived through the easiest months of his life, between injuries and misunderstandings with his coach. Esposito the qualities he has, it is indisputable. We will see in the future if he will be able to express them in the best possible way and combine them with behavior equal to the technical means that he has at his disposal.
