Escape from FC Bayern? Dayot Upamecano breaks his silence

After several serious mistakes, Dayot Upamecano has lost his regular place at FC Bayern. Almost as a result, rumors have emerged in recent days about a possible escape from Munich in the summer. Now the Frenchman has commented on the headlines.

The 25-year-old, who moved from RB Leipzig to FC Bayern in 2021 for around 42 million euros, apparently does not want to leave the German record champions.

“No, not at all,” Upamecano replied to a “kicker” query about a possible farewell wish and added: “I have a contract until 2026, I feel good – in the club and with my teammates. I want to stay here at FC Bayern and will keep pushing.”

In the first half of the series, the France international was out for long stretches. After the turn of the year, however, he had several misses, including two dismissals within a few days.

Coach Thomas Tuchel subsequently decided to restructure his defensive center, where Matthijs de Ligt and winter newcomer Eric Dier currently form a stable duo. The expensively purchased Min-jae Kim also has to sit on the bench.

Dayot Upamecano takes rumors at FC Bayern in stride

For Upamecano, the new situation is no reason to give up. The defensive man, who is considered a calm character, prefers to serve the team.

According to Upamecano, he did not have any (crisis) discussions with his superiors. He doesn’t attach any importance to the speculation of the last few days. “That’s football,” said the right-footer, commenting on the rumors surrounding him.

Upamecano is still considered a shaky candidate for the new season. After a largely disappointing season, FC Bayern is planning a major shake-up in which at least five seasoned professionals are supposed to be sold.

In return, the squad should be strengthened with fresh and, above all, hungry additions. It is unclear whether new competitors for Upamecano are also on the shopping list.
