The music contribution Estonia for this year’s ESC in Basel causes excitement weeks before the event. Rapper Tommy Cash can compete for the small Baltic country and is with “Espresso Macchiato” sing a hearty Italy parody.
In lousy English with Italian accent, he sings to Eurodance beats such as a leisure crook like “Mi Money Numeroso, I Work Around the Clocko/ that’s why I’m sweating like a mafioso”. The Italians are already resenting him. They are insulted because of all kinds of Italo-clichés.
Taking it seriously is the fun song at no point. Once it says “Life is like spaghetti, it’s hard uniled you make it/ no stresso, no stresso, it’s gonna be espresso”. But still many Italians feel offended in their honor. They do not want to be close to the nefarious mafia at an event that celebrates international understanding and diversity.
Italy demands ESC exclusion from Estonia
The Italian consumer protection association Codacons has now officially protested at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which is organizing the ESC. The song conveys the message that the Italians are “associated with organized crimes”. The association therefore even asked EBU to have Estonia thrown out of the competition.
This is now also demanding the right-wing lega politician Gian Marco Centinaio, who had flyers printed: “If you insult Italy, you have to stay outside at the ESC.” He asked Cash to check his clichés for their truth content in Italy.
Estonia is a little faster than Germany with its long-stretched Raab decision. It has been clear since Saturday that Tommy Cash, known as a provocateur and Mode-Geek, will compete for the country at the ESC.
The excitement for his comedy track did not harm him. The clip already has 2.8 million views on YouTube, and on Spotify it is currently one of the most heard songs. Many not only laugh at lines such as “Life May Give You Lemons When Dancing With The Demons/ No Stresso, No Stresso, No Need To Be Depresso”, but also that the musician from a Starbucks cup drink.
