Haaland buys book for over one hundred thousand euros

Erling Haaland buys a book for a lot of money – even though he says he was “never a big reader”. What he plans to do with it is surprising.
Machester City striker Erling Haaland has bought the most expensive book ever sold in Norway at auction. For 1.3 million crowns (around 120,000 euros), the 25-year-old and his father Alf-Inge purchased a copy of Snorre Sturlason’s royal legends from 1594 – and wants to leave it to his home community.
The work will be permanently loaned to the community of Time, where Haaland grew up. The auction took place on December 5, 2025. If Haaland has his way, the book will remain accessible to everyone. He wishes that “everyone can read about those who came from my area, from Bryne and Järe”. He also wants to inspire young people to read.
The Royal Sagas are considered the most important Norwegian book of all and are now also the most expensive ever sold in the country.
