Erasmus new coach of rugby world champions South Africa

Rassie Erasmus returns to the coaching position with newly crowned rugby world champions South Africa.

This was confirmed by a high-ranking official from the national association to the AFP news agency. Erasmus will therefore retain his position as sports director and will work in a dual role in the future.

The 51-year-old South African, head coach of the Springboks from 2018 to 2020, succeeds his compatriot Jacques Nienaber, who is the same age. He had already announced months ago that he wanted to quit after the World Cup in France. Nienaber inherited Erasmus as national coach three years ago.

South Africa won their fourth World Cup title at the end of October with a 12:11 defeat in the final against New Zealand and are now the sole record winners.
