Entrepreneur loses very expensive car after ‘handing it in to Schiphol parking company’

A 50-year-old entrepreneur who thought he would hand in his car at a parking company at Schiphol on October 17 last year was seriously scammed. He never saw his Range Rover, worth a hundred thousand euros, again. The Royal Military Police is sharing details in the hope of tracking down this sophisticated thief.

The businessman often flies abroad for work. He regularly parks his Range Rover in a secure car park at Schiphol. This also applies to the 17th of October last year. At least, that’s what he thinks.

On the day of departure he receives a phone call from a so-called parking employee. For reasons that are still unclear, he has the man’s details, such as his name, telephone number, but also type of car, license plate and travel details.

Unsuspecting

An hour later the same person calls again, but this time to arrange a time slot. Once we arrive at Schiphol, a slim, dark-skinned man of around 25 years old appears to take over the businessman’s car.

The entrepreneur unsuspectingly goes on a business trip to China. Almost ten days later, October 26, he returns to the Netherlands. He calls the parking company at Schiphol to collect his Range Rover. But the car was never returned there. So the man to whom he returned the car pretended to work at the parking lot.

One hundred thousand euros

“His car was clearly stolen,” the Royal Military Police said in conversation with Bureau NH. “After October 17 last year, GPS data shows that it was driven several times in Hoofddorp. The navigation system has now been turned off, meaning the man’s Range Rover has still not been found to this day.”

It concerns a Land Rover, type Range Rover Sport. The car is worth about a hundred thousand euros.

The military police would like to get in touch with people who know something about this sophisticated theft. “The perpetrator clearly played on the businessman’s trust, very sad that something like this happened.”

The perpetrator was captured on camera when he arrived at Schiphol with bus 300 and walked to the owner of the car, perhaps that information can help track down the man.
