Enthusiasm and skepticism about political promises Nieuw-Vennep: “Want to see action too”

The Haarlemmermeer council unanimously approved a package of eight motions last night that should improve quality of life in Nieuw-Vennep. The proposals were submitted following a visit by the city council to Nieuw-Vennep, to show residents that they are being listened to.

“Because the council had already made quite a few commitments, we said: let’s bundle the motions,” says VVD councilor Katrijn Kliphuis to NH. “Then we can keep a closer eye on progress. Because it is very nice that they promise to help find a location for a new clubhouse for scouting Kagiwepi, but we also want to see action.”

At Kagiwepi they are delighted with the adopted motion. Although this means that there is no new location and no new clubhouse yet, ‘with the support of the parties of the council meeting, we are further than we have ever been’, says board member Timo Wicke. “Now we can accommodate many more young people.”

“Why is action only taken after such a visit?”

Martijn Schouten, chairman of the Village Council

Village council chairman Martijn Schouten (46) is still skeptical: “Why is action only taken after such a visit?” he wonders aloud. “A new scouting location, that has been discussed for five years. If you are a council member, you must have come by to take a look for a long time?”

The visit of the Haarlemmermeer city council to New Vennep the end of March was the first in a series of visits to the smaller centers of Haarlemmermeer. With this, the city council wanted to show that they also have an eye for the residents of those villages and hamlets.

“It’s nice that they’ve been, it hasn’t changed what the problems are in Nieuw-Vennep. It should have been on the radar before, and it also doesn’t solve the problem of why certain issues aren’t on the radar of the city council,” said Martijn. “We would like to see more concrete actions: they have to add butter to the fish.”

Marco Kok of the Protestant Municipality is ‘very positive’ about the adopted motion, because it may bring the rental of the White Church a step closer. “The fact that all parties have agreed indicates that the city council also sees that the lack of space is a problem.”

It is not due to the interest in renting part of the church. “Several parties have now reported, without us advertising.” The church does not have a clear preference, says Kok. “We are looking broadly. What kind of tenants also get along well with each other?”

Apart from the desire to make the church multi-purpose – for which the zoning plan will ultimately have to be adjusted – Kok is pleased that the city council recognizes its cultural and monumental value. “Because it is one of the few monuments in Nieuw-Vennep.”

separate motions

Two motions, including the motion calling for attention to the ongoing vandalism around primary school De Linq, have been submitted and adopted separately, says VVD council member Kliphuis. “The college did not go far enough in its commitments.”

More than 20 declarations in one year: Vennep primary school ravaged by loitering youth – NH News

The school has long been plagued by loiterers, who regularly cause destruction. Last year the director did reported more than twenty times, after which the school called on local residents to keep an eye out during the Christmas holidays. That seemed to work, but it went wrong again during the May holiday, according to Kliphuis. “A complaint has been filed again.”

The first point of reference for measuring the extent to which the Board is fulfilling its commitments is six months from now. “Then there will be a progress letter,” concludes Kliphuis.
