England players kneel before kick-off of World Cup match: ‘This is the biggest stage’ | football world cup

The footballers of England have knelt as a statement against racism before the start of the World Cup match with Iran. The team of national coach Gareth Southgate also kneeled during last year’s European Championship.

“We discussed it and we think we should do it. That is what we stand for as a team. This is the biggest stage,” Southgate said at the press conference the day before.

On Monday morning it became clear that captain Harry Kane would not be wearing the OneLove bracelet for inclusion after it emerged that he could potentially receive a yellow card for doing so.

The match between England and Iran started at 2 p.m. at the Khalifa International stadium in Al-Rayyan.
