HANNOVER (dpa-AFX) – The energy ministers of the federal states have jointly spoken out in favor of a discussion about a photovoltaic requirement for all new buildings. “We want there to be a solar obligation in Germany for all new buildings and for fundamental renovations and also for new buildings in Europe,” said Baden-Württemberg’s Energy Minister Thekla Walker (Greens) after a meeting of the responsible ministers on Wednesday in Hanover. If there is to be clean, safe and cheap energy in the future, the expansion of renewable energies must now be significantly accelerated.

The decision literally states: “A photovoltaic requirement for all new buildings should be discussed. In social housing construction and renovation in this area, roofs should be completely covered with solar modules.”

The federal government’s coalition agreement also envisages the expansion of solar energy on roof surfaces. It states that this should be mandatory for new commercial buildings and the rule for new private buildings./cwe/DP/ngu
