The energy crisis could lead to numerous cancellations of World Cup events in Nordic and alpine skiing in the coming winter.

The world association Fis expects this, as General Secretary Michel Vion admitted at the Nordicum Forum of international ski sports journalists in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Fis currently has no plan B, said Vion. One knows about the problems in relation to snow production and floodlight events, among other things. It is not easy when people have to save water and electricity, but competitions are being prepared and held next door. But we are optimistic that we can handle this.

In general, Vion assumes that World Cups could be postponed at short notice. “If a cancellation comes a month before the planned date, this is no longer possible,” said the Fis Secretary General.
