Chronicle of a miracle in Florence

A journey through works of art and documents celebrates the miracle of the stigmata of Francis of Assisi. The cross that blooms and the stigmata of Saint Francis is a path which tells how, between the mid-13th and mid-1300s, the way of representing the event changed. Starting from a panel by the anonymous Master of the Cross 434, entirely dedicated to the miraclethe itinerary continues with works by Taddeo Gaddi, Saint Francis receiving the Stigmata and a small but precious portable tabernacle which reports the episode. Alongside the paintings are written testimonies and illustrations of sacred texts. In Santa Croce continues, curated by the Opificio delle Pietre Durethe restoration of the Bardi Chapel which houses the cycle of frescoes and paintings by Giotto dedicated to Saint Francis. Until July, the inhabitants of Florence will also be able to take part in a series of guided tours for free.
