Pole vaulter Torben Blech suffered a torn cruciate and medial ligament, a broken tibia, as well as bruises and bruises in his serious competition accident. The 31-year-old announced this on Instagram.

Blech landed next to the mat last Sunday at the athletics meeting in Bad Bergzabern, Rhineland-Palatinate. The Leverkusen player had to abandon his competition after the unsuccessful attempt at 5.45 meters.

Despite the devastating diagnosis that meant the end of the season, Blech looked confidently forward. “A blessing in disguise – it could have been much worse had I landed on my head. Surgery is unavoidable, but we are optimistic about the future,” he wrote.

He has the best team and the best people around him. “I can rely on all of you; you give me hope and confidence. The path won’t be easy – but believe me: I’m coming BACK!”, confirmed Blech.
