The non-profit organization Trotting Racing will completely close access to the Kuurne hippodrome this week. The trotting competitions were previously stopped because they were no longer financially feasible. In recent months, the track has remained open for training, at the request of the municipality, but that now also appears to be no longer sustainable.
“The closure of the track for training trotting horses as of April 1, 2026 did not come out of the blue,” says Mayor of Kuurne Francis Benoit. “It was decided at the end of January that the track could only remain open if a buyer was found to operate the training center. To this day, there has not been one.”
