end of career? That’s what Olympic champion Denise Herrmann-Wick says

In the coming biathlon season, German hopes once again rest on Denise Herrmann-Wick. It is not yet clear whether it will be the last World Cup winter for the Olympic champion.

Denise Herrmann-Wick is currently preparing for the upcoming winter sports season. The big highlight is undoubtedly the World Championships in Oberhof (February 8th to 19th, 2023).

For the 33-year-old, the anticipation of the event at home is huge months in advance. “I followed the track and field athletes at the European Championships in Munich and got goosebumps while watching. Of course I hope that we can experience something similar in Oberhof. I’m really excited to see what that will do to me, how it will push me,” said Herrmann -Wick in an interview with the “Saxon newspaper“.

“We know the mood in Oberhof from the World Cups before Corona, but I think a World Cup is something else again. We’re all looking forward to it now,” explained the individual Olympic champion from 2022.

Herrmann-Wick focuses on the Biathlon World Cup

Her full focus is on the Biathlon World Cup in her own country, assured Herrmann-Wick. The Saxon native left open whether she would then continue her successful career.

“Of course I’m at an age when you think about what’s next. I do that too,” said Herrmann-Wick: “It’s important to me that I stay healthy, can train what I intend to do and run at the front. I will then see how the body feels. It’s a lot of fun for me right now.”

The DSV athlete achieved her best finish in the overall biathlon world cup with third place in the 2019/20 season. The big career highlight for Herrmann-Wick was undoubtedly winning the gold medal in the individual competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
