Emre Can sums up the year of frustration: “Only got it in the face”

In the 2-0 win in Leverkusen, Emre Can was one of the strongest players in the BVB team. After a first series that was disappointing for all sides, the form curve of the midfielder is pointing upwards. The 29-year-old is reluctant to think back to last year.

The fact that Borussia Dortmund seemed more stable defensively in the last two Bundesliga matches was also due to a personnel measure by coach Edin Terzic. After BVB’s wild performance against FC Augsburg (4:3), Emre Can was given a new chance to prove himself as a clearer in midfield – and took advantage of it.

The retired German national player feels satisfaction. “I’m really happy about that, because I only got my face in the last year – to put it in good German – it was mostly justified, but not always,” explained Can in an interview with “Sky”.

Before the winter break, the veteran was only used sporadically, and rumors arose about a premature departure from Dortmund.

“I also know that the first half of the season wasn’t good. But the last performance gave me confidence and I’m trying to continue now,” Can clarified.

Emre Can: BVB “feel like number one Bayern hunter again”

In any case, the native of Frankfurt does not want to give up his place in the starting line-up any time soon. Thanks to the recent winning streak, Can and his teammates can even dream of the championship again.

“Before the second half of the season or before last week, we felt like a candidate for relegation. Of course, we have to blame ourselves for that. Now we feel like Bayern’s number one hunters again,” the defensive all-rounder summed up the emotional roller coaster ride smugly.

Can appealed to the team: “We just have to keep going like this. We have to play exactly like we played in Leverkusen. Then we can be successful.”
