A 29-year-old man from Emmen has been sentenced to seven months in prison for entering a well-known one and a mistreatment in the pub, of which three months are conditional.

The punishment is higher than the five months in prison, of which three months are conditional and a sixty -hour community service that the public prosecutor demanded.

According to the court, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) is too low with the proposed punishment. The judge mainly lifts the collision on September 28, 2023 in Schoonebeek. The unsuspecting victim was hit by a delivery van from behind. The suspect had arrived in the bus and saw the man who had made him lives sour, the man told the judge earlier. Something fell in him.

When he is triggered it quickly goes from 0 to 100, the man said. He could not control himself and drove at his rival. The victim collapsed on the floor, he picked up again. Then the suspect used the bus backwards and rode on the victim again. He turned off and fell again.

The man was bruising on arms and ribs, scrapes and injuries on his meniscus. “It is not due to the suspect that no more serious injury has arisen,” the judge judges.

The incident happened on the public road, making fellow road users feel more unsafe according to the judge. Moreover, the Emmenaar left the place of the accident and did not care about the wounded man.

There is no justification for this behavior of the suspect, the judge believes. The mistreatment in the pub took place in December 2022.

The Emmenaar struggled with setbacks, so he was not in control of his emotions. The problems were often solved in an aggressive way.

The man must be treated and guided. He must also work on his alcohol and drug addiction. The judge also imposed a ban on contact with the 53-year-old man he had hit and he must pay him a damage amount of 850 euros.
